Two gold medals prove that this is a great quality Sauvingon from the esteemed Bougriers.
Fresh, delicate and full of delightful gooseberry and lime fruit, this is Loire Sauvignon Blanc as it should be. Little wonder too, as it comes from the acclaimed family estate of Bougrier.
This charming white scooped two gold medals in no time at all, and has been commended by the International Wine Challenge. It comes courtesy of a superb vintage too; Loire critic Charles Sydney referred to 2009 as 'The Smiley Vintage' on account of all the happy winemakers after the harvest.
Started in 1984 by Mike and Lorraine Brehme with just two chests of Assam tea from a single tea estate, teas of such quality weren't widely available at that time and proved to be a huge success.
The company hit its stride when it became involved with the Fairtrade Foundation. Clipper eventually launched the very first Fairtrade tea in 1994, but this was an ethical business from the start. "It was always about how you want to make a living," explains Mike. "I was in tea already, and I realised there was child labour involved and I thought, ‘That's no way to make a living.'"
Clipper has always been innovative, too. Over the years they have introduced organic tea, coffee, white tea, Rooibos and the Japanese-style sencha. But everything that they do has to be in line with the company's principles, laid down by the founders as: "Always a pure, natural product – there isn't a single artificial ingredient in any of the products."
The inspiration for Olives et Al was a year long, international motorbike adventure by the soon-to-be-founders of the company. Annie and Giles Henschel travelled through the Mediterranean, the Middle East and North Africa, falling in love with food and flavours along the way. Whilst on their travels they made sure they collected as many recipes as they could and, once back in the UK, proceeded to put their findings into practice. The results speak for themselves. Olives et Al source the finest available olives, nuts, seeds and oils to make delicious snacks following instructions which, in some instances, have been handed down through generations.
We all can honestly say that these crisps are truly amazing. Fried in pure sunflower oil and flavoured with completely natural ingredients, the difference in taste is remarkable. The crisps are light, flavoursome and a great favourite with the staff here!
They use locally grown vegetables and no artificial flavourings or colourings. Their main motivation to create these wonderful products was so that they could create a range of crisps with natural ingredients that complement a drink without overpowering it. The company has been running since 2005, consists of only four full-time employees and we find their drums of crisps are particularly good for sharing with friends. The drums are re-sealable to ensure that they stay fresh for up to a week, although we don’t think you’ll get the chance to prove this!
