You can have a look at the photos of Spring on our Facebook page here.

Choosing the Perfect Hamper

It is a longstanding tradition to send friends, colleagues and loved ones a hamper, filled with new and exciting foods to mark the season and important events and celebrations during the year.  Hampers are a generous gift for those close to you, but can also be a great gift for those who you don’t know as well.

How do you choose what type of hamper to get for your recipient though? If you know what kind of foods or drinks they like, then that’s always a good place to start. For example, a wine or whisky lover would be very pleased to receive a beautifully packaged gift from our selection of wines and spirits. Similarly, if your recipient is a chilli fiend, they’ll love the Chilli Hamper, or the Chocolate Feast is the ideal gift for a chocoholic.

A hamper is ideally suited to send to an office or group of people so it can be shared around and enjoyed by everybody.

Whichever hamper or gift you choose, you can rest assured that all the items in it have been carefully selected by our experienced product development team, who spend their time scouring the wealth of food producers, both in the UK and further afield, for sumptuous foodstuffs to fill our hampers with.

Hampers and Gifts for New Arrivals

Spring is always associated with new life, especially around Easter and we’re especially pleased to be able to offer gifts for both the new baby and the proud parents.

Our Champagne and Baby Diary is a beautiful way to chart a baby’s progress, and once completed, becomes an irreplaceable treasure. Completing a Baby Journal is a way to record every step of the way, from before the birth, to coming home for the first time, first smile, first tooth, first steps and lots more. A new baby is all about celebration, and what could be more fitting than to receive a bottle of champagne with the Journal.

We mustn’t forget the parents though, who may appreciate one of our excellent wine gifts, or Champagne gifts. Of course Mum probably won’t appreciate a drink straight away, but our wine gifts needn’t be drunk immediately, or you could choose something from our range of hampers where you can find something for everyone to enjoy!

Hampers: The Perfect Gift

Traditional hampers often go hand in hand with memories of families taking sandwich, sweets and refreshment filled hampers to the park or beach. Today hampers are still used for the traditional family picnic, but are increasingly popular as gifts. Not only is the visual impact of a hamper stunning, but filled with treats that you know will appeal to the recipient, they take on a very personal element, equally good for colleagues or clients, or as a heartfelt gift for a loved one.

Buying gifts for birthdays can prove difficult, especially for those who seem to have everything! Birthday hampers, filled with delicious treats that you know they’ll love, can be an excellent solution and prove that you’ve put a great deal of thought into that special gift hamper.

It’s easy to see why hampers have become so popular among gift givers who are looking to create an original gift bursting with things they know ththeir recipient will really enjoy.

Hampers – What’s Next?

Firstly, Happy Easter to all. We hope that you had a pleasant break and enjoyed the good weather, if of course you were graced with any! In Dorset it seemed to rain on Friday and Saturday, but clear up a little for Sunday and Monday.

You may be wondering what’s next in the ‘Hampers‘ annual calendar, as we’ve now been through Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and most recently, Easter. Well, preparations for our range of Christmas hampers are still underway and will continue almost until the point that we begin packing in the Autumn. In the meantime though, our product development team will be busy working on some fantastic hampers and gifts for Father’s Day.

The rest of us will be hoping for a nice hot Summer to make up for last year’s wet and wild effort and working on other projects. Keep your eye on the blog to find out what we’re bringing out this year…

Holy Week – Good Friday

Although opinion differs on the precise year in which the trial and Crucifixion of Jesus occurred (AD33, or AD34), it is generally accepted that his trial by the Sanhedrin occurred on the Friday and the Crucifixion happened on the same day. As we know, the day is marked with a public holiday on the Friday which precedes Easter Sunday.

Customs vary, from the flying of kites in Bermuda with cross shaped spars which also represent the ascension into Heaven, to eating Hot Cross buns in many English speaking countries.

At Virginia Hayward we’ll be making the most of the Friday and Monday bank holidays, ready to hit the ground running after Easter with our hamper preparations for Father’s Day.

Holy Week – Maundy Thursday

Also known as Holy Thursday, this day marks the Christian feast which commemorates the Last Supper which Jesus Christ shared with the Apostles.

The ‘Washing of the Feet’ is a traditional part of the celebration in many Christian churches. In early ceremonies, senior clergymen would wash the feet of the lower clergy and this has evolved from its origins in AD600 to include alms distributed by the sovereign. This was first recorded when King John distributed alms to the poor of Knaresborough, Yorkshire in 1210. Today, the Queen will visit Derby Cathedral to distribute special Maundy coinage to 84 men and 84 women, representing the number of years of her age.
